Abstract
Over the last decade, efforts in our laboratory have led to a novel class of DNA probes based on chiral, octahedral metal complexes. The unique DNA binding affinity of tris(1,10-phenanthroline) Ru[II] is now well documented. For this and related derivatives, DNA binding is generally accompanied by strong luminescence enhancements and absorption hypochromism in the intense MLCT band associated with the probe. Herein, we describe the photophysical properties of a new series of Ru[II] probes that contain the dipyridophenazine (DPPZ) ring system.
