Abstract
An efficient route for the synthesis of isomerically pure benzoporphyrin derivative (BPD) is presented. To understand more about structure/activity relationships in photodynamic therapy, a series of BPD derivatives, including dimers linked with carbon-carbon bonds were also prepared. The structure of the most effective (ring A) BPD isomer (14) was confirmed by a single crystal X-ray study.
