Abstract

Poly(oxyethylene) iso-octylphenyl ether was mixed with 0.2 ml AgNO₃ and 5 μl ascorbic acid in a plastic or quartz cuvette. Following careful mixing, the solution was exposed to UV light for 10 min under germicidal lamp for the generation of green sol. AFM images showed the linear aggregation of Ag particles in the green sol. This observation was corroborated by fluorescence studies, surface enhanced Raman scattering (SRES) effect, additional absorption band at 2630 nm and enhancement of Raman signal of pyridine.
