Nanophotonics: Fusion of photonics and nanotechnology

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Nanophotonics, optical science and technology at nanoscale, is an exciting new frontier, which has received considerable attention worldwide from both academic and industrial communities. The Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics at Buffalo has a comprehensive multidisciplinary program in Nanophotonics funded by the United State Department of Defense. This program focuses on three major areas of Nanophotonics: (i) interactions involving nanoscale confined radiation, (ii) use of nano-scale photoexcitation for nanofabrication and (iii) design and control of excitation dynamics in nanostructured optical materials. Since the focus of this NATO workshop is on materials, selected examples of accomplishments on nanostructured materials under this program are presented.
