Abstract
Multiple importance sampling method for first and second-order polarization mode dispersion (PMD) was presented. The technique employed multiple biasing schemes to generate configurations where the first and second-order PMD vectors were both large, or where one of them was large and the other one small. The probability distribution function (pdf) of the magnitude of the PMD vectors was calculated. The use of importance sampling allowed the accurate determination of the associated probability distribution, even for very rare events.
