Abstract

The developments being done on multidisciplinary design optimization are discussed. Key to these successes have been major advances in the development and application of high-performance computing, Internet technologies, and scientific visualization across diverse fields. The High-Speed Civil Transport results released by NASA-Langley that evaluates the performance qualities of alternative configurations structurally optimized in the presence of nonlinear aerodynamic loads are presented. The features of the Dakota software toolkit, developed by Sandia National Laboratory, that promotes research collaboration in areas such as surrogate-based optimization, simultaneous analysis and design and optimization under uncertainty are elaborated.
