Abstract

The combination of multi-week laboratory projects and shorter, traditional experiments is a useful way to incorporate a broad exposure to instrumental methods and authentic scientific practices into an analytical chemistry laboratory course.Differences between implementing short, protocol-based experiments and student-driven projects are described and advice is provided for how to manage projects. Three different approaches to multi-week laboratory projects will be described.
