Abstract

Liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) and sol-gel methods have been used to grow BiFeO3 thin films on SrTiO3 and LaAlO3 single crystal substrates. XRD pole figures showed that the films were bi-axially aligned, with an in plane texture of about 2° and out-plane texture of 0.6°. The LPE films grown on (001) SrTiO3 had a 4-fold symmetry along the c-axis, indicating they had a heterostructure different from the bulk crystal. Both piezoresponse force microscopy and the ferroelectric measurements showed that the films were ferroelectric. Vibrating sample magnetometry showed that the LPE grown films were ferromagnetic.
