Abstract
Multiple quantum wells, semiconductor doped glasses, and organic polymeric systems, as third-order nonlinear optical materials, are compared. In order to characterize one- and two-photon resonances and their manifestations, a method of femtosecond time-resolved and optically heterodyned Kerr-Gate, whereby the time response as well as both the magnitude and the sign of the real and imaginary parts of the third-order susceptibility of the materials can be investigated, is developed.
