N2 - This keynote speech will first describe some recent advances in mobile digital video, including mobile IPTV, intelligent video adaptation for mobile devices, and distributed coding for mobile video applications. Through the analysis of these recent advances, this speech will identify technical challenges as well as research opportunities for mobile digital video. In particular, this speech will present in more detail some recent progress and significant potential of emerging technology mobile IPTV. Various components of the technology chain for mobile IPTV, including video content acquisition, management, and delivery, will be examined. A number of associated research opportunities will be discussed. This speech will conclude with a summary and will discuss the potential impact of contemporary mobile digital video applications on the picture coding research community.
