Abstract

The structure-property relationship of material informatics that allows to survey complex, multiscale information in a high-throughput, statistically robust manner, is presented. Databases or data mining - an interdisciplinary field merging ideas from statistics, machine learning, databases and, parallel and distributed computing - provides a unique tool to integrate scientific information and theory. The goal of data mining is the extraction of knowledge and insight from massive databases. The role of material informatics can be pervasive throughout all fields and applications in material science and its impact depends on the way experiments and data analysis are done.
