Abstract

Strains and stress in unstrained plates and deflection of cantilever beams which are made of magnetostrictive materials were studied. Self-consistant expansional strain approach was used to calculate strain and stresses. The method was based on the assumption that magnetostrictive strain can be modeled as anisotropic expansional strains. It was found that thermal, piezoelectric and hygroscopic strains can also be calculated by this method.
