Abstract
Magnetization Transfer Ratio (MTR) of enhancing and non-enhancing lesions in the Multiple Sclerosis. The conventional Magnetic Resonance is particularly efficient in order to demonstrate anatomical variants and pathological alterations of the nervous tissue. However, an higher definition of pathological findings requires new techniques such as the Magnetization Transfer Imaging (MTI). MTI reveals the interactions between static (or tightly bound to macromolecules) protons and mobile protons; from this point of view MTR could give a considerable indication of the myelin integrity. We have studied 70 patients who suffered from Multiple Sclerosis and our aim was to study the possible role of this technique as an alternative of the contrast media in the evaluation of the lesion activity. Our results visualise that MTI cannot reveal the gadolinium uptake areas and due to this reason the MTI cannot be used as an alternative in the evaluation of the illness activity.
