Abstract

We demonstrate a Li-ion capacitor which is capable of achieving high energy density, long cycle life and high power density. The Li-ion capacitor consists of a battery electrode with Li intercalated hard carbon (HC) anode and a double-layer activated carbon (AC) cathode electrode with the open-circuit potential at or near the maximum potential when the cell is fully charged. The stabilized lithium metal powder (SLMP) was applied onto the surface of prefabricated hard carbon anode electrodes. The energy density of a punch cell was 22 Wh/kg.
