Abstract
Recent progress in the detection of enteric pathogens is reviewed in this paper. Recurring themes in this year's review are the use of the polymerase chain reaction and attention to recently appreciated pathogens. Notable progress has been made in the detection of Helicobacter pylori, enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli, and enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli.
