Abstract
An improved synthesis of a water-soluble phosphine ligand, PPh2(CH2CH2NMe3+I -) amphos, is reported. Iridium complexes with amphos, trans-Ir(CO)X(amphos)2 (X = Cl, I), Ir(CO)(H) (amphos)3 and Ir(CO)3(amphos)2+ have been prepared and examined for reactions with H2 and CO. Structures of trans-Ir(CO)(Cl)(PPh2CH2CH2NMe 2)2 and [trans-Ir(CO)(Cl) (PPh2CH2CH2NMe3+) 2][I-]2·2DMSO are compared to each other and to trans-Ir(CO)(Cl) (PPh3)2. The amphos ligand changes the solubility of iridium complexes, but does not markedly change the nature of the iridium center. Reactions show the effects of more polar solvents.
