Abstract

Measurements of the nonlinear transverse magnetic moment have been carried out on disk-shaped samples of YBCO, using an ac technique. Numerical calculations for a dx2 - y2 pairing state predict a fourfold modulation of this moment as a function of the angle between the applied magnetic and the crystalline axes for a magnetic field applied in the a-b plane of the sample. Our results imply a minimum nonzero gap at all points on the Fermi surface.
