Abstract

As outlined in Chapter 27, non-invasive ventilation is an important component of the care of patients with COPD and acute respiratory failure. Non-invasive ventilation is associated with fewer complications than invasive ventilation.1 In particular, the incidence of nosocomial pneumonia is reduced during non-invasive ventilation.2.
