Abstract
The 11 cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (PDE) families are differentially distributed in the brain, suggesting that they contribute in unique ways to central nervous system functions. Given that PDE1, PDE2, PDE4, PDE7, PDE9, and PDE10 are enriched in the hippocampus, amygdala, and neostriatum, they may contribute significantly in the mediation of memory. In this chapter, the roles of the different PDE families and their isoforms in mediating memory and the mechanisms involved are reviewed.
