N2 - This paper describes pilot scale experiments using chlorine and full scale chlorination for zebra mussel control at a drinking water treatment facility in Western New York State. The objectives of this research project were to: (1) quantify the effects of chlorine dose, contact time, and temperature on zebra mussel mortality; (2) determine trihalomethane formation potential during treatment of zebra mussels with chlorine; and (3) test the applicability of disinfection models to zebra mussel inactivation.
