Abstract

This paper discusses a series of experiments on walls of light wood frame with anchored brick veneers carried out at the University at Buffalo. Eight full-scale specimens were designed and constructed following current design requirements in the United States. Six walls with anchored brick veneer and two bare wood frames were tested quasi-statically under monotonic and cyclic in-plane loads. The goal of the testing program was to quantify the participation of the brick veneer in the in-plane lateral resistance of the system and investigate the influence of design alternatives. The test results and failure mechanisms are concisely presented in this paper.
