Abstract

In the fifties, it was felt that civil engineers needed only statics because most civil engineering structures are massive and their response to dynamic loads may be negligible in comparison with those static loads. The fact is that a great deal of work was going on to develop dynamic analysis of civil engineering structures at that time. As more engineers became aware of the effect of dynamic loads, there has also been a trend to design and build taller and more flexible structures. The concept of structural control was explored and various experiments have been conducted.
