Abstract
Impairment due to substance abuse may affect 8% to 12% of all physicians. Most jurisdictions in the United States have programs that are designed to help these physicians. To prevent the tragic outcomes of untreated chemical dependency among their colleagues, physicians must learn about this disorder and be willing to take appropriate actions.
