title = "Impact of waterpipe smoking on indoor air quality",
abstract = "The goal of this study was to validate a commonly used particle monitor for the measurement of exposure to waterpipe tobacco smoke. A series of controlled experiments determined a waterpipe-specific calibration factor for the TSI SidePak and then used this device to accurately measure particulate exposures in real-world waterpipe cafes. It was determined that these cafes had hazardous particle levels and that the likely source of the particles was the charcoal used as the waterpipe heat source. Indoor waterpipe smoking should therefore be considered when making policies to protect indoor air quality.",
