title = "Hybrid structural control for seismic safety",
abstract = "Hybrid structural control systems are one of the most recent forms of control proposed for protecting buildings and bridges from the effects of major earthquakes. By combining conventional passive protective systems with active controllers, they take advantage of the better response provided by active systems, reducing the energy requirements and keeping the passive system as a fail-safe in case of a failure in the active portion of the system. This paper presents a survey of the various hybrid systems that have been proposed to date and the algorithms that are being used to control them.",
