Abstract

Analytical data from analysis of 1000 water samples collected at random from households at point of use in an ongoing program of determining the heavy metal content of drinking water, have been entered into a computer and processed by means of statistical packages. Significant findings were: The mean pH of well water was lower than that of municipal; Ca, Mg, and Na were higher in well than in municipal water; Ba and Si were increased in well water but not corresponding to pH values; Cd and Cu were significantly elevated in well water as pH values decreased. Among heavy metals at the point of use, elevated Pb values were more common in municipal water and increased Cd and Cu levels in private systems.
