Abstract

Certain natural processes may be due to simultaneous operation of many inseparable subunits. Even if each subunit operates in a very simple manner, the aggregate may give a relatively complex curvilinear function if the subunits operate at various rates or intensities. This paper deals with two simple cases of such systems: aggregates comprised of many linear processes, and aggregates comprised of many exponential processes. Graphic techniques are described for estimating mean, standard deviation and general aspect of the frequency distribution or spectrum of processes which could give a particular composite curve.
