Abstract

Geometric and stereochemical approaches to modelling interfacial defects in YBa2Cu3O7-x are presented and a summary of the stereochemistries of the distorted copper (II)-oxygen complexes associated with these defects has been complied. The localization of holes at these distorted copper (II) complexes, the use of electron paramagnetic resonance in the identification of their structural environment, and the effect they have on the superconducting properties of YBa2Cu3O7-x materials are discussed.
