Abstract
Gabapentin as a drug therapy of intractable hiccup. Persistent and intractable hiccups indicate neurological and extra-neurological multiple disorders; it has been suggested that it could be a type of myoclonus, determined as a repeated activity of the solitary inspiratory nucleus, without the adequate control of the cerebral inhibiting structures. Due to this cause we decided to treat chronic hiccups in a multiple sclerosis patient with gabapentin. After two days of therapy the hiccup disappeared and the patient became asymptomatic.
