Abstract
A flexible synthesis of water-soluble ZnSe quantum dots capped with mercaptoethanol was described. A procedure that uses mercaptoethanol as surface stabilizer was developed. The resulting nanocrystals were arrested by precipitation in water, and no post-preparative steps were taken to clean the crude nanocrystal solution. The method was found to be faster and simpler than previously used techniques for synthesis of water soluble quantum dots.
