Abstract
The aim of this paper is to highlight important concepts regarding the bidirectional interactions between the brain and the ovary that may enhance our understanding of the presentation and treatment of depression in women. In so doing, areas in need of, and opportunities for, investigative attention will be identified. The potential clinical implications of these concepts also are reviewed with the aim of sensitizing mental health clinicians to the possibility that stress‐induced reproductive dysfunction may respond to psychological interventions.
