Abstract

This paper addresses the problem of designing fuel/ time optimal controllers for spacecrafts-undergoing rest-to-rest maneuver. A modification of the Switch Time Optimization (STO) algorithm is used to determine the switch times and maneuver time of the bang-off-bang control profile. The proposed algorithm is tested on an inertially symmetric spacecraft. As the weight on the fuel, a, is increased from zero, it is shown that the number of switches in the control profiles vary from 5 to 10 to 9. After a specific value of a, it is shown that the eigen-axis control with two switches is the optimum.
