Abstract

We begin with a review of prevalence and comorbidity of fathers' antisocial behavior. We then explore the theoretical perspectives and empirical evidence regarding the impact of fathers' antisocial behavior on child development through preschool age. We discuss both genetic and environmental influences on intergenerational transmission of father to child antisociality, include a critical analysis of potential developmental pathways from fathers' antisocial behavior to early childhood outcomes and the next steps in this area of research, and end with implications for preventive interventions.
