N2 - The dynamic compressive behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) was investigated experimentally using a one-stage light gas gun with strain rate of 103- 105 s-1. Three different reinforcement ratios were studied. The stress histories were recorded using three pressure transducers embedded in the specimens. The parameters such as histories of strain, strain rate in the specimen were obtained by applying the Lagrange analysis method. From the experiments, RC shows obvious strain rate effects. The dynamic strength increases with the reinforcement ratio as well as the strain rate. The peak stress of reinforced concrete with a reinforcement ratio of 1.44% increased from 335 MPa at an impact velocity of 117.6 ms-1 to 1810 MPa at an impact velocity of 420.8 ms-1. At a similar impact velocity of 400 ms-1, the peak stress of reinforced concrete increases from 876 MPa to 1810 MPa when the reinforcement ratio increases from 0.31% to 1.44%.
