Abstract
Uncertainty regarding the effectiveness of memory retraining with traumatically brain-injured adults continues to plague the field of cognitive rehabilitation. Although single-case experimental designs offer treatment providers a means by which to assess treatment efficacy, methodological flaws and short treatment intervals have seriously hampered previous studies. In the present investigation, a multiple-form memory assessment device was employed in an evaluation of two long-term memory retraining interventions. The results indicated significant improvement in word-list recall in a subject with mild to moderate closed head Injury, while no improvement was found in a more severely injured patient. The merits of the repeated measures methodology and the results of each single-case experimental design are discussed.
