Abstract
The replacement of CCDs with CMOS image detectors had been changing the way digital imaging is performed in medical X-ray imaging. CMOS detectors have 5-10 times lower operating power than CCD and only requires standard CMOS manufacturing process. Furthermore, on-chip integration of analog/digital processing functions is easy and has lower costs. A CMOS image detector for medical X-ray applications is evaluated, and the overall power consumption and cost of the detector is compared ot its CCD counterpart.
