Abstract

Generating a visual elevation model for large topography data sets is a computational and disk I/O intensive task. Reducing the latency of loading a topography data set and generating a map projection in real-time can significantly enhance visual analyses of these data sets. We have implemented several optimizations that reduced the initial latency related to loading and displaying map projections by 50%.
