Abstract
This study suggests that employees in the pediatric hospital were not at increased risk of acquiring tuberculosis, enteric infections, or hepatitis during the brief period of surveillance. The tine test was felt to be the single most valuable screening test. The tuberculin reactor rate appeared to be highest among employees who did not have direct patient contact, such as housekeepers. The risk of hepatitis was extremely low among employees, which may have been due to the lack of high-risk procedures and high-risk patients.
