Abstract

The effect of large electric fields on the ionization and recombination rate in a cesium plasma has been investigated. The calculation involved a simultaneous solution of the rate equations and the Boltzmann equation. The collision terms in the Boltzmann equation include the elastic, inelastic and the electron-electron Coulomb collisions. The effects of departures from the local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) conditions on the rate of ionization are discussed.
