This chapter lays out the principal thesis that ties together the chapters of the book. It outlines how independent state constitutionalism to date has fallen short of its promise, and how state constitutions must be understood outstood of jurisdictional isolation and in the context of the dual jurisdictional space presented by federalism. In addition, it provides an overview of the other chapters in the book.
