Abstract

In mature animals the acute toxicity of 2,3,7,8-TCDD exhibits marked interspecies variability. The developmental toxicity of 2,3,7,8-TCDD was assessed in the rat and hamster to investigate potential interspecies variability in the embryotoxicity and teratogenicity of TCDD. Although there are species differences in the expression of fetal toxicity, the results suggest that the toxic potency of TCDD is similar in the developing rat and hamster.
