Development of CLTD values for buildings located in Kolkata, India

Abstract

A one-dimensional, transient heat transfer model has been developed to estimate the cooling load temperature difference (CLTD) for buildings. Finite difference method has been used to solve the governing partial differential equation with suitable initial and boundary conditions. A recently developed ambient temperature model for predicting local dry bulb temperatures and a sky radiation model that considers the effect of local relative humidity has been used to generate CLTD values for different types of roofs and walls. Comparisons have been made between the computed and ASHRAE CLTD values. At standard conditions specified in ASHRAE handbooks, a reasonably good agreement was found between computed and ASHRAE CLTD values for roofs and walls. However, there is marginal to considerable differences between the computed and ASHRAE CLTD values, when the calculations are carried out for Kolkata, India.
