Abstract
The use of indirect imaging means for optically viewing shielded syringes and vials is described. The gamma or x radiation through new nonglass windows is reduced by an order of magnitude from the radiation emanating out of comparable refractive leaded-glass window shields, yet the optical visualization using the new indirect-viewing windows is adequate for viewing syringe contents as well as indices. Syringe shields using the new design are rugged, easy to clean, and inexpensive.
