Deep-Structure Curriculum Liberation for Social Responsiveness in Graduate Health Service Psychology Training

Transforming and liberating the curriculum in health service psychology training programs is essential if we are truly committed to creating an antiracist and justice-oriented psychology.We examine the importance of critical consciousness in creating curricular change including identifying whose voices and what methodologies are represented or absent in our teaching and training. Such efforts require deep-structural change that go beyond small iterative changes to the syllabus. Addressing barriers, readiness, and challenges in our training programs requires reflection, at the individual and organizational level, steeped in assessment and audit practices at the course and program level, with the broader aim of combatting structural and institutional racism.
