Abstract
This article is based on the different ways to tackle the concept of resistance and challenge the separation between ethnography and theory in anthropology. The French concept of 'débrouillardise' as it is used by farmers in Auvergne includes social manipulation which conveys accommodation, resistance, cunning and ways of 'making do and making out'. Whenever the ethnographer had the opportunity to observe such behaviours or involuntarily took part in them helped her reconsider her viewpoint on power.
