Abstract

Absolute cross sections for the 15N(p, nα)11 C, 15N(p, x)13N, 14N(d, nα)11 C and 14N(d, x)13N nuclear reactions (where x = nd and t) were measured for the first time. The cross section for 14N(d, n)l5O was confirmed up to 12 MeV. Absolute cross section data for the l6O(p, pn)15O is also reported here, although it has been previously reported as a possible source of 15O. The thick target yields were calculated. Radiochemical purity was determined. The yields of the 15N(p, n)15O, 14N(d, n)15O and 16O(p, pn)15O reactions are suitable for biomedical use, whereas 15N(p, nα)11 C, 15N(p, x)13N, 14N(d, nα)11C and 14N(d, x)13N reactions have low yields and are not suitable for biomedical applications.
