Abstract
Composite plate shear walls-concrete filled (C-PSW/CF) consist of two steel faceplates with concrete infill sandwiched between them. This structural system has garnered national attention for implementation in seismic regions, which has spurred interest in nonseismic regions where bolted connections are preferred over welded ones. This research investigates bolted splice details for C-PSW/CF to facilitate their use in such regions. Objectives include assessing the applicability of existing AISC strength equations, comparing behavior of different splice details, understanding ultimate behavior, and validating numerical models. Six tension component tests considering various splice details, including blind bolts, Shuriken connectors, and through rods with pipe-sleeves, were conducted. All splice details tested developed the nominal strength per AISC equations. Finite element models accurately captured tension behavior under monotonic and cyclic loading, showing different failure modes. This study provides insights into the ultimate behavior of these bolted C-PSW/CF components.
