Abstract

Cyberinfrastructure provides for the transparent and ubiquitous application of technologies central to contemporary science and engineering, including high-end computing, networking, visualization, data warehouses, science gateways, and virtual organizations, to name a few. In this paper, we discuss our Cyberinfrastructure Laboratory, as well as several ongoing cyberinfrastructure efforts in New York State. Our Cyberinfrastructure Laboratory has led in the development of several grids, including an experimental Buffalo-based grid, a Western New York Grid, and most recently, the New York State Grid, upon which a grass-roots New York State Cyberinfrastructure Initiative has been established. Complementary work at Binghamton University focuses on techniques for Web and grid service performance optimization, component frameworks for grids, instruments and sensors for grid environments, adaptive information dissemination protocols across grid overlays, emulation framework for grid computation on multi-core processors, and secure grid data transfer.
