Abstract
We analyze the current-voltage behavior of a photoelectrochemical cell assuming that its equivalent circuit consists of a photodiode in series with an electrochemical cell. One of the two cell electrodes is controlled by mixed mass and charge transfer. The model is restricted specifically to noninteracting photo and electrochemical components. However, in this limit, it still includes semiconductor photocorrosion or solvent reaction as competitive paths. Resolving the light and mass flux sensitive components allows electrochemical kinetics and other electrode potential determining factors to be distin guished from the solid-state parameters with which they are conventionally lumped in the treatment of semiconductor-liquid junction photoelectrochemical cells.
