Coping with Entitlement in Medical Education

To the Editor: In his Sounding Board article, “Coping with Entitlement in Medical Education” (Dec. 25 issue),* Dubovsky laments what he perceives to be the unwarranted expectations and demands of today's student physicians. What he neglects to note is that this is only an isolated peripheral symptom of a much broader societal malady — one that is not limited to student physicians but that medical educators themselves might also be startled to recognize in their own mirrors. The medical education industry, of which Dr. Dubovsky is a part, is itself guilty of succumbing to the inflationary expectations that were universally.
